Gross Motor Milestones

0-6 months

 
  • Lifts head while on stomach

  • Tilts head from side to side

  • Holds head up to look at things

  • Rolls from stomach to backside


6-12 months

 
  • Begins to sit by self

  • Rolls from backside to stomach

  • Starts attempt at crawling

  • Briefly holds body up

  • Starts to crawl

  • Stands at furniture


1-2 years

 
  • Lets go of furniture and can stand on two feet

  • Can walk along edge of furniture

  • Can walk holding a person's hand

  • Begins to throw objects

  • Starts to walk alone

  • Begins to jump

  • Throws balls

  • Squats

  • Can walk backwards


2-4 years

 
  • Bounces and kicks large ball

  • Jumps

  • Runs easily

  • Can remain on one foot

  • Can ride a tricycle

  • Can catch a ball with both hands


4-6 years

 
  • Stands on one foot for prolonged time

  • Can skip

  • Can jump on one foot

  • Can throw ball over own head

  • Can catch ball

  • Can jump a greater distance
